3 Ideas from Me
The Ripple Effect of Work-Life Balance
I. Imagine This…
Someone who prioritizes self-care, aligning their daily habits with their physical, mental, social, and spiritual health. They’ve built positive routines that not only support their wellness but also allow them to thrive. Imagine how they feel—peaceful, accomplished, and full of vitality. In this state, they’re fully present with family and friends, deeply engaged in their career, and living in an ideal state of work-life balance. And here’s the beauty: this balance doesn’t just benefit them—it uplifts their family, workplace, and community.
II. The Reality
Achieving this kind of balance isn’t easy. It requires discipline and a commitment to aligning your actions with your purpose. The journey may not always lead to perfection, but the effort itself yields incredible rewards. Even when we fall short, we land in a better place—where self-care, family, and work harmonize in meaningful ways.
III. Life’s Challenges
Life will inevitably throw challenges our way. By prioritizing work-life balance and practicing self-care, we build the resilience needed to face life’s flaming darts. Personally, I’ve discovered that maintaining a strong work-life balance, grounded in self-care and my relationship with Jesus, helps me recover more quickly from life’s curveballs. It’s like having an internal shield, an armor of protection, enabling me to navigate stress and bounce back stronger.
Striving for balance isn’t just a gift to yourself—it’s a gift to everyone around you. When you invest in your well-being, the ripple effects can be life-changing for your family, the brothers and sisters you work with, and your community.
2 Quotes from Others
I.
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence is then not an act, but a habit.”
– Aristotle, Greek Philosopher
II.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
– John 16:33
1 Question for You
How might your resiliency improve by enhancing your daily self-care and balance habits? How would this benefit you and your family?
Dr. Donnie’s Answer
I’ve been one who used to give up sleep when life got busy. However, through education and personal experience of operating in a slight state of sleep deprivation, I’ve learned that time does not equate to efficiency and effectiveness.
I wear a Smart ring that measures many things including my sleep cycles, heart rate, heart rate variability, oxygen saturation and more. I’ve learned by leaning into the data to make adjustments to get better sleep.
Preparing myself to sleep well has been my ticket to success. I try very hard to not eat or drink anything except water after 1900. The results have been spectacular.
This simple strategy, yet sometimes hard to follow has increased my resiliency significantly. I can say this because the ring measures resilience too.
