3 Ideas from Me
I. Comfort and safety are two values airlines strive to balance. When the plane reaches its cruising altitude, the captain tells us, “the seat belt sign is off; you can move about the cabin. When you return to your seats, please buckle up in case of unexpected turbulence.”
I believe this is what work-life balance feels like when operating with optimal rhythm. We are moving through our cabin of life with ease and taking care of business within the boundaries of our core values.”
II.
“It’s when we take the good rhythms of balance for granted is when we can become vulnerable in getting rocked with turbulence. When feeling healthy and fit, we sometimes forgo the workout and reach for the symbolic double cheeseburger and beer. Nothing wrong with this now and then, much like flying through a tiny air pocket. No harm, no foul.
It’s when we develop an out-of-balance, unhealthy habit is when we can get caught flying without our seatbelts. This vulnerable spot can lead our plane to weight gain, relationship strain, or anxiety pain.”
III.
“If you’ve ever experienced flying out of your seat and smacking your head in an airplane, you know why it’s important to fasten your seatbelt. The same holds true in life.
As you enjoy cruising through the good times of work-life balance, please remember to check in with your internal pilot. Listen to the voice that is reminding you to check your seatbelt. When we stay buckled to our faith and principles in life, we can successfully navigate any storm life brings us, even the unforeseen turbulences with work, children, or illness.”

– Pat Tillman, NFL and ASU Football Player, Army Ranger
