3 Thoughts from Me

Thanksgiving Day is steeped with family and friends celebrating with great food, laughing, singing, and watching football. For many, the holiday is also about recalling blessings throughout the year and expressing gratitude.

The day can be filled with warm hearts and laughter, and it can also be filled with loneliness and sadness. It can be a wonderful time for some and difficult for others.

II.

I’ve learned over the years that it’s difficult to really know what a person is going through during the holidays. Let’s be real…broken marriages, child concerns, illness, depression, addiction, or isolation worry many.

I’ve also learned that expressing grateful thoughts for the everyday, simple things in life can be helpful no matter how great or challenging our lives are at a given moment. It’s not easy, yet it often helps.

III.

I encourage you to try a simple giving-thanks process. Search for the small and simple things to give thanks for with your physical, mental, social, and spiritual wellness. Then, give thanks for your family relationships and successes at work.

After you do this yourself, please consider sharing this process with your family and friends by helping them discover grateful thoughts.   When you do, you might find it very rewarding to give thanks on all Thanksgiving Days, including all the days of the year ending in “Day.”

Happy Thanksgiving, My Friends!

Please remember and thank all our Public Safety professionals who are working on Thanksgiving.

2 Quotes from Others

I.

Gratitude turns what we have into enough and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity…it makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

 II.

Gratitude, like faith, is a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it grows.”

  • Alan Cohen, American Author
