3 Thoughts from me, 2 Quotes from others, and 1 Call-to-Action Question to help you reflect on your work-life balance and well-being habits this week.

3 Thoughts from Me

I.

We often feel the effects when we get out of balance in one or more areas. We sense the adverse physical effects of not exercising or receiving adequate sleep.

These negative physical feelings often spill over and adversely affect our thoughts and emotions. The physical and mental feeling of being out of balance is usually a result of a few daily behaviors not aligning with our priorities in life.

II.

As you recall, my working definition of work-life balance (WLB) and well-being is when our daily behaviors align with our life priorities.

And since you have experience with my teachings, you know how important it is to effectively manage your physical, mental, social, and spiritual self-care. You understand when we prioritize our self-care activities, we are supercharging our readiness to be the best versions of ourselves with our families and in our careers.

III.

However, the possibility of getting out of balance is highly probable. WLB generally has an ebb and flow methodology. It’s challenging and unlikely to stay in an optimal WLB state.

Much like how a chiropractor can thoughtfully adjust our spines and necks into ultimate alignment, we can do the same with our daily behaviors. When we find ourselves out of balance, we should hold ourselves accountable and thoughtfully snap, crack, and pop our daily behaviors to re-align with our priorities in life.

2 Quotes from Others

I.

You are one adjustment away from a good mood.

II.

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

–      Isaiah 43:19

1 Question for You

If you have a few needed adjustments, how would you, your family, and/or work benefit if you snapped, cracked, and popped some of your behaviors back into alignment with your priorities?

Dr. Donnie’s AnswerTraveling for work is highly rewarding but comes with challenges. Not getting enough sleep, overeating, and limited exercise are common elements of work travel. However, I don’t believe it needs to be that way. Just as the great Bruce Hornsby’s song says, “Some things will never change. That’s just the way it is. Ah, but don’t you believe them.”  I genuinely believe “Intentional Planning” to get adequate rest, eat moderately, and exercise daily is the needed adjustment to my travel dilemma.  Let’s Go…and Intentionally Plan!
