3 Ideas from me, 2 Quotes from others, and 1 Question to help you reflect on your work-life balance and wellbeing habits this week.

3 Ideas from Me

I.

Last week, I was honored to conduct several work-life balance workshops for the Arizona Highway Patrol and one large workshop for the Yavapai County Adult Probation Department. Authentic, loving leaders and officers who wanted to improve their work-life balance and well-being filled the rooms.

I am very proud and applaud all the attendees. Participating in the workshop prompted each officer to face their work-life and wellness fears and challenges. Everyone crafted a solid improvement plan. However, they were not the only ones who faced their fear last week.

II.

My wife and I are grateful to Larry; a Sedona local and reader of this newsletter, for his hiking trail advice. As we approached Devil’s Bridge, Marlene said, “Donnie, you can go out there, and I’ll take your picture.” I replied, “How about we both go, and we’ll have another hiker take our picture?”

She responded, “No way, you know I fear heights, and I’m not going to fall to my death on that narrow rock bridge.” I said, “It’s really not that narrow; it only looks narrow.” However, I didn’t know that to be true; I just had a hunch. I asked her to take my hand and walk with me.

III.

I tried my best pep talk so we could experience this thrill together. She said, “Nice try, but if I’m going to do this, I need a few minutes to process my fear.” I later learned she was self-talking and logically going through her self-imposed obstacles. When finished, she asked, “Will you hold my hand while we do this together?”

I learned about the power of facing fears as we enjoyed the bridge walk experience together. Then I told Marlene how proud I was of her and how she resembled the officers who faced their balance and well-being fears and took action to move forward.

2 Quotes from Others

I.

“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.”

–Dale Carnegie, Author & Self-Improvement Trainer

II.

For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

–       2 Timothy 1:7

1 Question for You

How would your loved ones benefit if you taught them the power of facing your fears by your living example? What are you fearing, and what are you doing about it?

Dr. Donnie’s Answer: I feared growing my work-life balance and well-being training business to the next level. I received the Call in a dream over one year ago. I planned on how to do it and got excited, but I seemed to fear the unknown. I was comfortable where I was at the time. When I faced my fear, I learned fearing the unknown was an effect of something else I feared. I prayed and listened. I soon discovered the fear I feared was my faith. I feared not knowing if the Calling I heard was real. I talked it over with a few well-respected people and received guidance. I needed to get comfortable with the unknowns of the future because faith is about belief in what we cannot see. My loved ones can benefit from my experience because they know what I feared and the action steps I have recently taken. The new company is being formed as I write this newsletter.
