3 Ideas from me, 2 Quotes from others, and 1 Question to help you reflect on your work-life wellness and balance habits this week.
3 Ideas from Me
I.
Many of us set New Year’s resolutions. I know I did this year and have done so for many years. It’s a process I thoroughly enjoy. I especially like thinking about my calling, family, and self-care areas.
As a parent, I preached the importance of looking back at the previous year and being grateful for all the blessings, including achievements, relationships, good health, and learning opportunities.
II.
I am grateful the preaching took root. Today, all my children participate in New Year’s resolutions. They spend time reviewing the previous year, enjoying the highs, and learning from the lows, and then they create new goals and vision boards.
My wife also spends time reflecting on the past and setting new goals. She’s very good at assessing progress frequently, which can trigger minor adjustments to stay on the path of success. She’s quick to take action and rarely wastes time living the “someday” life.
III.
We have all read that most New Year’s resolutions fail to achieve the desired behavioral change or goal. Researchers say 23% of people quit their resolutions by the end of the first week, and 43% quit by the end of the first month. Sadly, only 9% of people achieve their resolutions.
I understand the ones who achieve tend to focus on the particular activities and behaviors needed for that specific day and not so much on the end result. I also understand that the ones who fail in their resolutions often tell themselves they will get to it someday.
When we catch ourselves postponing living Today for “Someday,” please remember we have the power to turn “Someday” into Today. And when we choose to take action, we can confidently tell ourselves and others that we found our Someday, Today!
2 Quotes from Others
I.
“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit at home and think about it. Go out and get busy.
– Dale Carnegie, American Writer
II.
“God never runs out of fresh starts for His people.”
— Joyce Meyer, American Pastor
1 Question for You
Pause for a moment while looking inward, ask yourself what have you been putting off for “Someday”?
What is it, and how would your life and those you love change if you found your Someday; Today?
Dr. Donnie’s Answer: I’ve been putting off going “All In” on my calling. I’ve been slowly changing and looking for “signs” that I’m on the correct course of action. Thankfully, in the fall of 2023, I decided to go “all in”. My indecisiveness ended when I found myself surrounded and supported by many Christian friends who also share in the calling.
I expect my life to have many positive changes in 2024. I expect my social circle within this calling will grow deeper and wider. I expect our team’s work will be a blessing for many. I expect my family will be impacted positively, and they may learn much with me during this time. I expect my physical, mental, social, and spiritual health will be at optimal performance.
The bottom line is that 2024 is the year I decided to take the limits off of God.
I want to hear your answer to the question above. I know you’ve been thinking about emailing me “someday” an answer to my newsletter question. Would you be willing to turn your someday into Today?
