How’s Your 144?

|3 Ideas – 2 Quotes – 1 Question and Answer from Me to help you reflect on your work-life balance and wellness habits this week.

3 Ideas from Me

I.

Morning Foundation

Each morning, we’re handed 144 new opportunities—those ten-minute blocks that add up to a full day. How we use them shapes our lives, influences our balance, and defines our well-being and fulfillment.

Today, I kicked off with a solid morning ritual: enjoying my coffee, engaging in prayer, finding moments of silence, and jotting down my thoughts. This practice sets a strong foundation, powering me through the day.

II.

Daily Integration

As the day unfolds, I make sure to integrate work with life’s pleasures—doubling down on my productivity. For example, this morning, while walking on Flagler Beach, I had a meaningful chat with Eric Valliere, a stand-out leader in firefighting and a brother in faith. This spot, where I blend work, exercise, and social life, amplifies the value of every minute spent.

As the day winds down and the sun nears the horizon, I carve out time for deeper reflection through prayer and meditation—key to optimizing what’s ahead. The evening is cherished and topped off by dinner and quality time with my wife and catching up with family, grounding me in what matters most.

III.

Evening Reflection

We all get the same 144 daily segments. How we use them reveals our true priorities. Remember, aligning our day-to-day actions with these priorities is what real work-life balance is all about.

I’m laying out one of my better days here, but we all have off days. What counts is how we bounce back and improve. Tomorrow’s another chance with a new 144. What’s your plan for them?

2 Quotes from Others

II.

” Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
– Proverbs 16:3

1 Question for You

How much time do you spend on social media and watching the news each day? Would you consider reallocating some of those ten-minute segments to more fruitful activities? If so, what activities would you choose, and how might this change benefit you and your loved ones?”

Dr. Donnie’s Answer

I’m not much of a social media person. The time I spend on that is generally minimal. I have been watching more news than usual over the past month. After writing this newsletter, I am now mindful of many 10-minute wasted segments. That said, I plan to exchange some of my extended news watching for other interests. I have a few woodworking projects at home that I would like to work on and enjoy working on. This would definitely be a better use of my time, and my wife would be very happy with the finished projects.
