3-2-1: The Grass is Always Greener When You Water it.

3 Ideas from me, 2 Quotes from others, and 1 Question to help you reflect on your work-life wellness and balance habits this week.

3 Ideas from Me

I.

I know you’ve heard the expression, “The grass isn’t always greener on the other side of the fence.” This expression is probably a hundred years old, yet it is true today.

II.

When we evaluate how well we are doing by comparing our lives with others on social media, we can be led down an inherently unsuccessful path. Our grass might look like we’ve been suffering from drought due to the brown spots throughout our lawn.

Our lives resemble grass; when grass doesn’t receive the proper hydration, it turns brown and eventually dies. Much like grass, our lives need to be watered with positive thoughts and actions.

III.

Our daily behaviors determine whether we are in balance or out of balance. This does not always need to be measured on a day-to-day basis but during a period of time. Much like how grass can go days without receiving water, we can go days without being in balance. However, if we go too many days without water, we become susceptible to entering a drought season.

The best method of drought deterrence is prevention. Our grass, the thoughts, feelings, and actions we take daily, can be enhanced, managed, and guided by choosing to water our grass. We can do that by thinking positive thoughts, which lead to positive feelings, actions, and outcomes.

2 Quotes from Others

I.

Be positive. Your mind is more powerful than you think. What is down in the well comes up in the bucket. Fill yourself with positive things.”

– Tony Dungy, NFL Coach

II.

“The power of the tongue is life and death—those who love to talk will eat what it produces.”

Proverbs 18:21

1 Question for You

Pick an area of your lawn (a role in our life) that needs watered. What might happen if you turned on the sprinkler each day and watered that role with positive thoughts?
