3 Thoughts from Me
I.
Reflect, reset, and rebalance are the 1-2-3 punches I’ve used for decades. I use it when I’m feeling in and out of balance. The feelings of being out of balance are sometimes more complicated to detect than ones being in balance.
One thing I’ve learned over the years is that our feelings are like our other sensory organs. They serve a purpose just like our eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and skin.
II.
When we get out of balance for too long of a time with our self-care, family relationships, or work, negative consequences usually appear. They can surface as anxiety, depression, overweight, strained relationships, racing thoughts, exhaustion, or inability to sleep. However, they often whisper warnings to us.
The challenge we face in our fast-paced, constant stimulus culture is that the noise from our environment drowns out our ability to hear the whispers. Therefore, it would be very beneficial to spend quiet time each day reflecting and listening to the whispers.
III.
I choose to reflect in the morning. I begin by reciting what I’m grateful for from the previous day and for the current day’s opportunities. I then listen for the whispers of my feelings. Listening to these whispers provides direction for my prayers, which is the second part of my reflection.
Taking time to reflect provides us with a road map of where we’ve been, where we are, and where we want to go. It gives us the GPS coordinates to follow. And when we have this purposeful direction from reflection, it sets the stage for us to reset and then eventually rebalance.

II.
“Just because we are in a stressful situation doesn’t mean that we have to get stressed out. You may be in the storm. The key is, don’t let the storm get in you.”
– Joel Osteen, American Pastor and Author
