3 Ideas from me, 2 Quotes from others, and 1 Question to help you reflect on your work-life balance & well-being habits this week.

3 Ideas from Me

I.

Have you ever drifted into a relaxed state while driving and realized you had exceeded the speed limit? Have you ever regained awareness of your surroundings to realize how far and fast you’ve traveled? As we know, many dangerous, undesirable effects can and often happen from drifting off and exceeding the speed limit. Wait, were you thinking I’ve been talking about how fast you drive a car?

Many of us drive through life over the speed limit. Often, it starts when we are young. I remember when I couldn’t wait to be in 5th grade and be in elementary school’s oldest class. Then I couldn’t wait to get into and out of high school. Then college, graduate, get my first career job, make it into management, etc.

II.

Sometimes we fall prey while searching for happiness and fulfillment. For many, happiness is believed to be experienced at the destination, on the other side of the goal. I’ll be happy when “______ “fill in the blank. However, this perceived satisfaction fades within a short time.

Without a doubt in my mind, happiness and fulfillment reside in the journey. We find it as we consciously slow down while navigating our daily lives. We benefit from taking in all the wonders this beautiful thing we call life has to offer. We can be in awe each day when we learn to notice and appreciate the perceived simple things in life. Such as our family, current job, friends, and communities we partake in.

III.

If you have an anniversary coming up and/or are a parent, you have probably experienced looking at your spouse or child and saying to yourself, “Oh, how time flies by.” We all have done this. We cannot stop time, but we can slow down and enjoy every minute of our journey.

One of the keys to slowing down is to realize you are on a journey that will have a final destination. Enjoy the slow drive and avoid getting a speeding ticket. Remember, we inscribe gravestones with a date of birth and date of death. However, your most most important inscription will be the dash in between your dates.

2 Quotes from Others

II.

“Enjoy the little things in life because one day you`ll look back and realize they were the big things.”

― Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., Author

1 Question for You
