3 Ideas from Me
I.
We have all celebrated the thrill of victory. Whether in sports, careers, families, or hobbies, the thrill of victory is incredible and becomes even greater when accompanied by hard work and dedication.
As a parent, watching and supporting your child in achieving a goal they set for themselves is very exciting and rewarding. I was blessed to watch my daughter, Hannah, set a goal and go after it this past summer.
II.
Hannah is a 19-year-old college student who made a goal to complete a triathlon. She found the event, registered herself, and found an outstanding volunteer coach (Thx, Jimmie) to create her training plan.
The family and I watched her train, work two jobs, and work on a health & wellness research project for the fire service. She was organized, purposeful, and dedicated every day. This Zoomer set her goal and went after it. I know I’m her proud father, but she reminds me of a modern-day “Rocky.” Guts, grit, and a winner’s attitude.
III.
My son Donnie (firefighter) and oldest daughter Rachel and I met in Tampa to support Hannah while Gabriella supported her digitally. We were amazed at the size of the event. Watching her and all the athletes swim, bike, and run was exhilarating for all of us.
As Hannah exited the water with a smile, we knew her summer training schedule provided the building blocks to compete successfully. We also knew completing this triathlon would become a monumental building block she would celebrate and use forever.
Side Note: Hannah placed 2nd in her age group!
2 Quotes from Others
I.
“It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done!”
— Rocky Balboa (2006)
II.
“You shall eat the fruit of the labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.”
—Psalm128:2
1 Question for You
As you look into your memory bank, what building blocks of hard work and dedication can you draw upon to re-celebrate and use to fuel your next goal?
Dr. Donnie’s Answer: I will re-celebrate finishing my dissertation and my Ph.D. I will use this achievement to celebrate the hard work, dedication, detailed planning, execution, and teamwork it took to get it across the finish line. I will use this new celebration to fuel my goal of launching a digital work-life balance and well-being course library.
