3 Ideas from me, 2 Quotes from others, and 1 Question to help you reflect on your work-life balance & well-being habits this week.

3 Ideas from Me

I.

When one anchors to something, they try to maintain a preferred position. The other day I beached a boat on a sandbar and anchored the bow in the sand. All was good for several hours.

Much like how I anchored down the boat to maintain a preferred and safe position, we must anchor ourselves to our self-care. Our self-care (how well we take care of our physical, mental, social, and spiritual health) is foundational to living a balanced and full life.

II.

The reason self-care is so important to our work-life balance is because health brings a freedom few realize until they no longer have it. Balancing your self-care should be at the top of everyone’s priority list. In other words, we should anchor ourselves to our self-care each and every day.

When we anchor ourselves to self-care, we build a solid foundation to achieve maximum success and effectiveness with our families and career.

III.

Challenges to our work-life balance come and go, much like how the tide rises and falls. When we anchor tightly to secure all areas of our health and wellness, we provide ourselves, our families, and our employer security.

If you are not anchored tightly to your self-care, it’s not too late to benefit from repositioning and elevating it on your priority list. Just as a great sailor will pull up anchor, sail from rough waters, and toward calm seas, you can also reposition your daily self-care behaviors. When you do, you will be dropping your anchor into balance. Anchor-Down, my friend!

 2 Quotes from Others

I.

“It’s okay to take time for yourself. We give so much of ourselves to others, and we need to be fueled both physically and mentally. If we are in balance, it helps us in all our interactions.”

–       Faith Hill, American Singer

II.

–       “So many people spend their health gaining wealth, and then have to spend their wealth to regain their health.”
– A. J. Reb Materi, Canadian Church Official

1 Question for You

How would your family and you benefit if you anchored-down to a self-care need that you have been neglecting?

Dr. Donnie’s Answer:  Over a year ago, I realized my spiritual self-care was drifting into the land of lackadaisical. I wasn’t happy about that, so I decided to anchor-down by listening to some spiritual podcasts. I found a Christian pastor who inspires me. I incorporate his 30-minute podcast into my morning routine. Without a doubt, my days are more productive and fulfilling as a result of anchoring-down my spiritual practices.
