3 Ideas from me, 2 Quotes from others, and 1 Question to help you reflect on your work-life wellness and balance habits this week.

3 Ideas from Me

I.

“Thanksgiving is in eight days and I’m sure you’re looking forward to spending time with your family, eating some great food, and visiting the in-laws (Did you Lol?). The holidays are designed as joyous occasions where one experiences peace, love, and happiness. However, some experience it as a double-edged sword, with joy on one side and stress on the other.

I don’t know about you, but stress is usually involved and is running with a razor-sharp like edge of the sword. If one reflects on why “so much stress” is involved, a person might realize the stress is self-imposed.”

II.

“Many who experience overwhelming stress fall into two groups. They are either perfectionists or they are pushing to do too much or both. Love, peace, and happiness are behind their actions; however, it often gets sidetracked by the sword’s razor edge of stress.

One method my wife and I use to dull the sword’s stressful side is to work on keeping it simple. We, like many, have learned through our experiences that holidays are meant to be joyous. It’s hard to have joy if our families and we are running 100 mph. We reduce the number of events we attend and people we see so we can spend quality time with our most treasured loved ones.”

III.

“We also use a Stephen Covey principle: Begin with the end in mind. We discuss our priorities and what experiences we want to achieve and how we want to feel after the holiday subsides. As two loving parents, we also discuss the experiences and feelings we want our children to have at the end of the holiday.

We take our thoughts and ideas and work backward to build an action plan so we know what we are doing and how to support each other. When we do this, our loved ones and we are more likely to experience peace, love, and happiness during the holiday.”

2 Quotes from Others

I.

“The turkey. The sweet potatoes. The stuffing. The pumpkin pie. Is there anything else we can agree so vehemently about? I don’t think so.”

–:Nora Ephron, Author

II.

“We may not have it all together, but together, we have it all.”
